What’s happening?
February 26th, 2013Weather and day light savings has been effecting our local outdoor community in a lot ways. If you don’t have good quality high output lighting for night riding in the evenings, then you probably haven’t been riding much recently after 6pm. You know we’ve been riding in the evenings as much as the weather has allowed thanks to Light & Motion. The time change is right around the corner and it couldn’t come any sooner as far as we are concerned. Our Thursday evening Road ride and the post ride Grill & Chill is coming soon! March 10 is when the time changes and the 1st Thirsty Thursday Road Ride and Grill & Chill of 2013 will occur on the 14th. Start time is at 5:30pm. Expect 25 miles and see House Mtn.! This is a no drop group ride.  NEW! Come on our weekly rides and earn points to get discounts on selected products. For example, come to 10 Thirsty Thursday road rides and get $100 off a $1000 purchase or $50 off a $500-999 purchase!  You can also make up missed days on our weekly Saturday road ride at 10am. This works best on bike purchases. If you can’t make enough rides to get the discount, Raleigh is giving a $100 rebate on carbon models. We post more frequently on our store Facebook page so become a friend!
Mtn biking has been a challenge with the recent wet conditions but trail work has been going on whether you’ve been involved or not. We work with the AMBC(Appalachian Mtn Bike Club) often to build and maintain local trails. Recent work has been on Sharps Ridge. We hope to drastically improve the park by adding multi-use trails. There is already about a mile of new trail so get up there and put tires on it! It dries quickly after a rain! If you are interested in helping contact us at the store and/or become a member of the AMBC. Future AMBC trail workdays. There is also more work to be done in S. Knoxville.
We are sponsoring KnoxRevolution again this year and are excited about their upcoming events. They lead rides, help with ours, and volunteer for events often. They are all about getting more women into cycling and so are we.
We are sponsoring all the RaceDayEvents rides for 2013 and will be out on the short courses to help beginners with mechanical issues and directions. You’ll see at least one of us riding along with a pack including tools and tubes.
We also ask that you support and/or become members of Legacy Parks and Ijams Nature Center. They are great organizations that do a lot for our community.
We are also a sponsor for the 2013 Knoxville Tour de Cure on June 8th. We’ll be there for mechanical support like usual. We will have a fundraising team soon. Stay tuned….
As you can see we are very active in our local community. Please get involved with your community and help support local business . Keep your internet purchases to a minimum. It effects us all and all of us can benefit from staying local. As a local business we are here as a ride center, bike store, meeting place, information center, service center, advocacy promoter, and more…  We are also here for mechanical support, emotional support, stress management, education, demonstration, and more…..
Call or come in with any cycling need you may have and we’ll do our best to fulfill that void. We are a small business and may not always have every item in stock but we have the ability and expertise to set you up the right way. We have access to almost every bike related item available so just ask(865-357-1580). Our bicycle tune ups are top notch and you get them free for 1 year with all new bike purchases and minor adjustments for life! Ask the guy that just bought a $100 bike off craiglist only to spend $150-200 in parts and labor if that’s a good deal.

Swagman XC2 upright bike rack.
January 31st, 2013Finding an upright receiver hitch rack that holds 2 bikes and fits both 2″ and 1 1/4″ size hitches on a budget was not always easy. Well now it is…. Swagman offers their XC2 rack at a great value! Priced at $178 with all of the features above is hard to beat! Right now, they are on sale for $160.20!! We have 3 left in stock and can get more if needed. We assemble and install them for free here at the Fountain City Pedaler and would be happy to test fit your bike into the rack to show you how it works. You will need a receiver hitch installed before purchasing a hitch rack but most SUV and trucks already have them. We don’t recommend roof bike racks for SUV’s or similar taller vehicles(except for boats and ski/snowboards) for several reasons and the hitch rack is a great alternative. Most cars can accommodate a 1 1/4″ receiver hitch as well. Having the rack securely mounted into a set-in style rack enables you to utilize the truck and prevents scratching your vehicle’s paint.  Compared to similar priced hanging style racks, the XC2 rack can hold almost all bicycle frame designs including 20″ or larger kids bikes, ladies bikes, full suspension bikes, and 29er mountain bikes.  Questions? 865-357-1580
Got lights?
January 30th, 2013One of the main reasons to own lights for cycling is to be seen by vehicles when on the road or crossing intersections. Our favorite use is to help escape day light savings during the winter months. Can you tell we are against it being dark by 6pm? Some of us like to get outside after work hours year round. That said, we recommend Light & Motion lights above all other brands due to their Made in America quality and performance. Pricing is better than ever before and there are more options to choose from. We chose a handful of lights that we feel are ideal for lot’s of different types of riding starting in the $150 range. Come get educated and we’ll let you take one for a test ride before you buy! Commuters, road bikers, and mountain bikers alike can see when it counts with Light & Motion. …and you thought the L&M Seca 800 was bright. You should see the lumens coming out of the Seca 1700!!
